What are Benadryl Allergy Liquid Release capsules?
Benadryl Allergy Liquid Release capsules are a treatment for hay fever and allergy symptoms. Just one capsule a day is enough to both treat and prevent allergy symptoms like sneezing, coughing, itching, or watery eyes. This product is ideal for adults and children aged 12 and over who suffer from allergic reactions caused by pet fur, dust, hay fever, and other allergens and are looking for a treatment that will protect you all day.
Why do I have allergy symptoms?
Allergy symptoms happen because your body is sensitive to certain substances, such as pet fur, dust mites, pollen or even certain foods. When you come into contact with something you’re allergic to it will start to produce a natural substance called histamine, which triggers responses throughout your body designed to get the allergen out of your body. This includes the following symptoms of an allergic reaction:
-
Itchy, red, or watery eyes
-
Coughing
-
Sneezing
-
A blocked or runny nose
-
An itchy rash or hives
-
Itchy ears, nose, or throat
What happens when you have hay fever?
Hay fever is a type of allergy which means you’re sensitive to the pollen produced by plants, including trees and flowers. Hay fever is a very common allergy, causing uncomfortable symptoms over the spring and summer months for around one in four people. You may find that you experience hay fever symptoms at a different time of year to someone else who also has hay fever, which can mean that you’re more sensitive to a different type of pollen. For example, you could be more sensitive to pollen produced by flowers, whereas someone else could be more affected by pollen from trees or grass. Pollen is a microscopic substance, and can’t be seen in the air when it’s released by the plants around us, making it difficult for sufferers to avoid symptoms on days with a high pollen count.
How will Benadryl capsules relieve my allergy symptoms?
Benadryl capsules contain an ingredient called cetirizine, with 10mg of this antihistamine in every capsule. Cetirizine blocks the histamine produced in your body in response to an allergic reaction, keeping it from causing allergic symptoms. This means that Benadryl capsules can help to both relieve and prevent sneezing, coughing, itching, and other symptoms caused by hay fever or other allergies.
Can I drive after taking these capsules?
Cetirizine is a non-drowsy antihistamine, so you usually won’t feel drowsy or tired after taking Benadryl capsules. However, drowsiness, dizziness, and other symptoms which could affect your ability to drive are listed as possible side effects of this medication, so you should take some time to see how this medicine affects you before you try to drive. If you do experience any symptoms which make you sleepy or affect your ability to concentrate you should not attempt to drive or use any tools or machinery until the symptoms have passed and you’re sure you’re safe to do so.
Can I take this product during pregnancy?
If you’re pregnant you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. They will usually recommend other treatments to relieve your allergy symptoms, but may still tell you to take Benadryl capsules if you need them. You should not take this product if you’re breastfeeding, as small amounts of the cetirizine in this medicine will pass into your breastmilk.
How many Benadryl capsules should I take?
Swallow one Benadryl capsule a day and no more. Swallow the capsule whole with a sip of water, do not chew the capsule. If you forget to take a dose, take the next one when needed, but remember to only take one capsule within 24 hours.
When should this product not be used?
Benadryl capsules are not suitable for use in children under the age of 12. Do not use this product if you’re allergic to cetirizine hydrochloride, hydroxyzine, piperazine derivatives, peanut, soya, or any of the other listed ingredients. If you have any moderate or serious kidney problems you should not take this product. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you:
