How Anadin Ultra works
Anadin Ultra contains ibuprofen. It belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by relieving pain and reducing inflammation, swelling and fever.
Directions
Always take these capsules exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / pharmacist has told you.
1 or 2 capsules should be taken up to 3 times a day as required.
The recommended interval between doses is approximately 6-8 hours.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Anadin Ultra may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- Allergic reactions e.g. hives, skin rashes and itching
- Abdominal pain, indigestion, heartburn and nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea and constipation
- High blood pressure

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Serious side effects might include inflammation of the brain lining, worsening of asthma and peptic ulceration or perforation.
Warnings
Anadin Ultra may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have or have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding
- Suffer from severe kidney, liver or heart failure
- You are in the last 3 months of pregnancy
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have heart problems including heart failure, angina or have ever had a heart attack, bypass surgery, peripheral artery disease or any kind of stroke
- You have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, a family history of heart disease or stroke, or if you are a smoker
- You are asthmatic or suffer from kidney, liver, bowel problems or hay fever
- You are suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus
- You are trying to become pregnant
- You have an infection
Medicines such as ibuprofen may be associated with a small increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
If you are taking Anadin Ultra for longer than the recommended time you are at risk of harming the stomach, gut and kidneys. You can also end up with very low levels of potassium in your blood.
Using/taking other medicines
Do not take if you are using other NSAID painkillers or aspirin with a daily dose above 75 mg.
Talk to your GP if you are taking:
- Anticoagulants
- Medicines that reduce high blood pressure
- Corticosteroids, antiplatelet agents, cardiac glycosides, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, lithium, methotrexate, ciclosporin, mifepristone, tacrolimus, zidovudine or quinolone antibiotics
Age restrictions
Do not give this medication to children under 12.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take this medication if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy as it could harm your unborn baby.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Make sure you discuss this medication with your doctor if you are in the first 6 months of pregnancy. You should not take it unless absolutely necessary.
Fertility risks
Talk to your doctor if you are trying to become pregnant as occasionally this medication will affect your chances of becoming pregnant.
Storage information
Store under 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
