What is Benylin Mucus Cough Relief Night Syrup?
This Benylin syrup is a treatment that works to relieve the effects of a mucus cough and its effects at night time. The liquid contains three active ingredients that help to relieve the effects of a mucus cough:
- Diphenhydramine
- Guaifenesin
- Levomenthol
Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that helps to reduce coughing, and also helps you to sleep. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that loosens phlegm and mucus from the lungs which make it easier to cough up. Levomenthol helps to make breathing easier by relieving a congested nose.
What caused a mucus cough?
A mucus cough is caused by mucus and phlegm becoming clogged up in the airways and lungs, this makes breathing difficult and as a result, a cough starts occurring. A cough is the body’s way of trying to remove the trapped mucus and phlegm. The main cause of mucus build-up is an infection, such as a cold or the flu.
Who is this Benylin medicine suitable for?
Benylin Mucus Cough Relief Night Syrup is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the syrup. It should also not be used by anyone who has taking or is currently antidepressants known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs). If you are taking any medication for another condition, then it is recommended that you speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using this syrup.

How should Benylin Mucus Cough Relief Night Syrup be used?
Take 10ml (two 5ml spoonfuls) before bedtime and then another 10ml dosage every six hours as needed, or take 10ml four times a day. Do not take more than four doses a day.
Are there any side effects?
Like with many different medicines, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:
- Skin Rashes
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Increased awareness of heart palpitations
- Shakiness
- Difficulty passing urine
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Upset stomach
- Nausea or vomiting
