What are Chloralieve Lozenges?

Chloralieve lozenges are a soothing remedy for sore throats that ease your pain and kill bacteria that can irritate your throat. They’re perfect for those who are suffering with a stubborn sore throat and are looking for a way to relieve their symptoms quickly and easily. These lozenges are available in mint or honey and lemon flavours.

Why do I have a sore throat?

Sore throats are very common and are usually a symptom of virus, like cold and flu. They can also be caused by smoking or bacteria, but they will almost always clear up by themselves within a week. When you have a sore throat, you may notice some other symptoms alongside it, including:

  • A dry or scratchy feeling in the throat
  • Redness in the back of the mouth
  • Bad breath
  • Cough
  • Swollen neck glands

How will Chloralieve lozenges help to soothe my sore throat?

Chloralieve lozenges contain three active ingredients which work together to soothe your sore throat. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic, which means it works by numbing the pain in your mouth and throat. Amylmetacresol and 2,4 – dichlorobenzyl alcohol are both antiseptic medications, which means that they kill any bacteria which could aggravate your irritated throat even more.

Can I take these lozenges if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should not take Chloraseptic Lozenges if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. They may not be safe for you or your baby at this time and you should ask a medical professional for another more suitable course of treatment.

Can I take this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you’re taking other medication, including those you obtained without prescription, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this product to ensure that they are safe to take together. This especially applies if you are taking:

  • Beta blockers, which are used to treat heart failure or arterial disease
  • Medicines which contain cimetidine, which are used to treat stomach ulcers
  • Other local anaesthetics
  • Medicines which are used to treat heart disorders, e.g. mexiletine, procainamide
  • Medicines such as fluvoxamine, which is used to treat depression
  • Antibiotics, e.g. erythromycin, itraconazole
  • Other mouth or throat antiseptics

How to use these lozenges

Slowly dissolve one lozenge in your mouth and then swallow. Do this every 2 – 3 hours, taking no more than 8 lozenges in any 24-hour period. Try to dissolve the lozenge in the centre of the mouth or on the tongue, rather than in the sac of the cheek.

Why do I need to answer questions before I can buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Chloralieve lozenges, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that this product is the best choice for you.
