Lemsip Max Cold and Flu Blackcurrant is a hot drink treatment used for the relief of cold and flu symptoms including:

How Lemsip Max Cold and Flu works

The sachets contain 2 active ingredients, paracetamol and phenylephrine hydrochloride.

Paracetamol works to relieve pain and reduce fever.

On the other hand, phenylephrine hydrochloride relieves a blocked nose by causing the blood vessels in the linings of the nasal passages and sinuses to contract and narrow. This decreases the blood flow in those areas, reducing the congested feeling. It also reduces the production of mucus.

Directions

Always take Lemsip Max Cold and Flu exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / pharmacist has told you.

The sachet should be made into a hot drink. Dissolve one sachet into a mug of hot water, but not boiling water. Stir until it fully dissolves.

One sachet can be taken every 4-6 hours. Do not take more than 4 sachets in 24 hours.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Lemsip Max Cold and Flu may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Side effects include:

• Skin reactions
• Headaches
• Vomiting
• Heart palpitations
• Hypertension

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Warnings

Lemsip Max Cold and Flu may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have any of the following:

• A serious heart condition
• High blood pressure
• An overactive thyroid
• You have an enlarged prostate
• You have pheochromocytoma

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have any of the following:

• Raynaud’s syndrome
• Diabetes mellitus
• Liver or kidney problems
• Non-cirrhotic liver disease
• Closed-angle glaucoma

Using/taking other medicines

Do not use this product if you are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI).

Do not take paracetamol or any other products that contain paracetamol.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking the following:

• Beta-blockers
• Tricyclic antidepressants, other decongestants or barbiturates (used to treat sleep problems or epilepsy)
• Blood cholesterol medication
• Blood thinning medication
• Anti-nausea medication
• Flucloxacillin

Age restrictions

Do not give to children under 16 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.

This product should not be used in women with a history of preeclampsia.

Storage information

Store 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
