What is Piriton Syrup?
Piriton Syrup is a medicine that is intended to be used to treat the symptoms associated with hay fever and other allergies. The active ingredient in the syrup is chlorphenamine maleate, which is an antihistamine that will treat the symptoms caused by an allergy, which include itchiness, redness, swelling, and irritation.
What is the cause of an allergy?
An allergy is caused by substances that the body thinks is a threat and as a result, the immune system triggers a response. This response includes releasing chemicals that help to defend against potential threats. One such chemical is histamine, which is the cause of many of the symptoms associated with an allergy. This is because histamine is designed to protect the body from the threat and the symptoms are a defence mechanism. Many allergy treatments are known as antihistamines because they suppress the histamine released by the body and reduce the symptoms caused.
